Emily – Age 7
“It was kind of sad for the animals in the shelter. They just sit there and watch the people walk by.” These were Emily’s words when she and her Scout troop visited the Yolo County Animal Shelter in 2017. She was 7 year old and a second grader at Pioneer Elementary.
A few months later, Emily stumbled upon The Unleashing the Possibilities Inc. (UTP) booth at Celebrate Davis. She stopped and spoke with Janis, the president of UTP. It was right at that moment that she knew how she could help those sad shelter animals. She wanted them to have a new temporary home. So she and her 24 classmates decided to fundraise. They collected $137.64 and donated it toward the building of the new shelter.
“Emily is a kind soul. She has an empathy for understanding others, at a level far beyond her age” said her mother, Amber. We agree and we think Emily’s story should be our first Hero’s story for our Heroes’ Corner.
Notes: We attempted to locate Emily so she could share her own story here but were not successful. However, we feel her story is one worth sharing.
